random observation: plants

I was excited to have a couple plants on our balcony. I planted cilantro, basil, thyme, and a jalapeno. Sadly, the cilantro (which is Fede's favorite herb) promptly shriveled up and died. I watered it everyday--but apparently it needed even more water than that.

I was hopeful the basil would be very happy--since it's so hot and sunny here. And it seemed to be doing well, until overnight, it was decimated.

I found the culprits, who had moved on from the basil to the thyme.

This "hungry, hungry caterpillar" appears to have gourmet tastes. I need to find some plants that don't taste good--and hopefully they'll be able to survive the "wildlife" in Sydney.
