random observation: people on the street

In honor of Australia Day, here are a couple random thoughts based upon the people we've seen walking around.

1. The women in Sydney dress well, have long hair, and show off great cleavage. 

Okay, there are some women who wear shorts and a t-shirt. But, there are also lots of women who dress pretty stylishly (even if they are also wearing flip-flops). We haven't been to the Opera House to watch anything, but I imagine that the women would be pretty dressed up there. For some reason, the men have not received the same message.

The long hair completely baffles me. It's HOT and HUMID here. How do the stand to have long hair? Often, it's not even put in a ponytail or bun. It's just there, whipping around in the wind. If it were my hair, it would be sticking to the back of my neck and making me feel even hotter and sweatier (if that were possible).

Lots of women also wear makeup (which appears to be expertly applied). Again, I don't know how their makeup is not melted off of their face--or sweated off. They must use some miracle makeup that I don't know anything about.

Not much to say about the great cleavage, except that Fede has definitely noticed this.

2. Children are not required to walk.

Okay, I realize that I am not a parent. I have no idea if it is simply easier to stick your 5 year old in a stroller than suffer the whines of "I'm tired", "Carry me", "How much further?" Or perhaps I am a bad judge of how old these kids are. But, it seems like there are some pretty big kids in strollers.

This girl was dancing around, wiggling her hips, before she decided to get in her stroller. My guess is that she's about 5 years old.

I was going to try to get more kids in strollers, but it's hard to do so inconspicuously. But I have confirmed it with another American--who is a mother. She also thinks the kids are definitely spoiled.

I suppose if the alternative is carrying the kid, I would also opt for a stroller.
