Yesterday, we headed out to the Campsie Food Festival. Honestly, I wasn't sure what to expect, but based on the website, I thought it was worth checking out. Plus, we have never been to that neighborhood--and I like having a good excuse to explore a new place.
It was pretty crowded. Although thankfully the lines were not too long. From what we could tell, Campsie is an Asian neighborhood--with lots of Chinese, Korean, and Vietnamese places to eat. But the food stalls included Halal, Senegalese, Turkish, Hungarian, and Dutch treats.
Just like any proper festival, you could also buy showbags.
There was an SBS stage, where they had an eating contest, and a "name-that-Asian-pop-tune" contest. I don't listen to any Asian pop music--but the crowd seem to know all of the songs.
I've seen the lemon in other places--but I still love that the lemonade stand is a giant lemon.
Sadly, we weren't in love with the food. (This is a trend we cannot seem to break.) We got a beef sausage (which had more bread than meat), bi-bim-bop (which was cold), a samosa (okay, but needed a kick), an Indian chicken curry (which was supposed to be their spiciest dish but was bland and yucky), and poffertjes (little pancakes, with maple syrup and chocolate--pretty good).
But the atmosphere was great. It felt like a real community event.
