For some reason, the first time I heard this, I had to think about what question was being asked. It sounded like a strange combination of "How's it going" and "How are you doing"--with something missing.
Maybe people are actually saying "How are you going" but no one bothers to say the "are".
I still haven't quite gotten used to it. It still makes me pause for a brief moment before I can respond.
In the meantime, here are some more abbreviations I've learned:
arvo = afternoon (sometimes even shortened further to "arv")
sangar = sandwich (not sure how to spell this--but sounds like "sang-ah")
ta = thanks
chook = chicken
