bushwalking
I have been wanting to get out of Sydney for awhile. Since I have a week break in between quarters, I had considered taking a trip to somewhere in Australia. But, that never happened. So instead, Fede and I joined a Meetup group for people who were going bushwalking.
Bill (the guy in the pink headband below) is the organizer of the Meetup group. He leads all sorts of walks--and brings emergency supplies, walkie-talkies, etc. I think he just does this for fun--since we certainly didn't pay him.
We met up across the street from the train station in Wentworth Falls. We had to wake up pretty early, because the train ride takes about 2 hours to get there. It was a gorgeous day--perfect for hiking.
The group was a mix of people who had been on walks with Bill before--they called him "Uncle Bill" which I thought was appropriate. Fede and I were at the back of the group--because I am a slow poke. My excuse was that I like to enjoy the scenery--although later, my excuse was that my body was tired and achey and I think my shoes are too small for me. :(
The trail had some interesting parts. Sometimes, it would seem to cut through the rock mountain--so we'd walk through this little slot.
Wentworth Falls is probably the main attraction of this hike. Here's a short video from the side of the falls.
It was an incredibly well-maintained trail, with nice railings. I think I would have been scared to fall off the cliff if it wasn't for those railings.
We had a really long descent down into the Jamison Valley, in order to get to the bottom of this beautiful waterfall. It was wonderfully cool--with the water giving a gentle spray. The pictures don't capture how the sunlight flitted through the water.
The walked continued, and we saw a couple smaller waterfalls. Then it was finally time to get back to the train station and go home. Fede and I were exhausted. This morning, I realize how pathetic I am. My body feels like it was punished yesterday. But it was worth it.
