Actually, we do have a pile of boxes in our bedroom. Hmm.., I guess we would have two piles then.
Eventually we got hungry, so we decided to head off to Darling Harbour since we were certain there would be fireworks. The place was already starting to fill up at 8 PM.
There had been live entertainment all day at Darling Harbour. They had set up a stage (on the water!), and there were TV screens (on the water!) at other points so people could still see what was happening.

We peeked at the restaurants that face the harbour, hoping that we might find a place that would serve us dinner quickly so that we could then walk out and watch the fireworks. By some miracle, we not only got a table, but one where we could watch the fireworks. Mexican luck was with us.
The show started with a narration of the First Fleet arriving on the shores of Australia. The sailboats were lit up, and the screens also showed a video accompanying the narration. There was someone singing--but I don't know the famous Aussies, so I can't remember who it was.
Of course, the highlight was the fireworks.
I didn't bother trying to take pictures of the fireworks with my camera phone--since I was pretty sure they wouldn't come out. But there were really perfectly timed with the music. Plus, the fireworks were launched not only from the water, but also from the tops of some of the surrounding buildings. But the best was the end, when there was what looked like a wall of gold sparkly lights in front of us.
I think they were better than the fireworks at New Year's Eve. Then again, maybe that's because we had a much better view for Australia Day.
I wonder what the fireworks will be like for Valentine's Day.
