Here is what we've spent so far. I have used an exchange rate of 16.5 pesos per $1.
| Pesos | US | |
| Pediatrician in Teziutlan | 500.00 | $30.30 |
| Emergency Room in Veracruz | 957.58 | $58.04 |
| General doctor in Monterrey | 460.00 | $27.88 |
| Emergency Room in Monterrey | 550.00 | $33.33 |
| Pediatrician in Monterrey | 600.00 | $36.36 |
| Dentist in Monterrey | 900.00 | $54.55 |
| Gyn in Monterrey | 1680.00 | $101.82 |
When you look at the numbers, it is amazing to me that the emergency room visit for Elie was less than the office visit with the pediatrician. My recollection is that an emergency room visit in the US costs at least $1,000.
Fede and I each got our teeth cleaned for less than $30.
The most expensive visit was when I went to see a specialist--let's not go into the reasons why (I'm fine and I'm not pregnant). But that was also the fanciest hospital I have ever been to. There was a piano player when we entered the lobby. And after our visit, and we were leaving, there was a violinist. Definitely not your average hospital.
The costs I don't list are the pharmacy costs. There has been quite a lot of that too, unfortunately. In some cases, the drugs cost more than the doctor visit.
I'm sure we will get sick again. But let's hope we will at least avoid trips to the emergency room at 3 AM.
