Lebanese sweets

We were told by one of Fede's co-workers that the best place for Indian food was Wigram Street in Harris Park. So one day, we decided to check it out, and stumbled on this Lebanese sweets place.

There were a lot of people sitting outside, sipping their coffee and chatting. I liked that it was mostly older men, "shooting the shit" (as they say). It seemed like they were all old friends, comfortable and relaxed.

So, I couldn't resist and had to have a treat before dinner. I love how nuts are used in many of the pastries.

And the chocolates wrapped in colored foil reminded me of the Lebanese chocolate place in Portland. According to the guy in Portland, Lebanon is the "Paris of the Middle East."

I had a lot of trouble deciding what to get. Fede let me do all of the picking. Ultimately we ended up with two plates.

The one that looks like a churro was a last-minute decision--purely because it looked like a churro. However, its only resemblance to a churro is in its looks. It was our least favorite.

I can't remember the names of any of these sweets, but they were all delicious. Soaked in honey/syrup/water. Definitely need to sip coffee with these sweets. But I loved the combination of honey and nuts. This one was my favorite.

I think it's called a mammoul--and they had different flavors. This one was walnut. I think I'll need to try the other nut flavors next time.

Since it was so yummy, we had to take some home with us. It was once again a tough decision.

But ultimately we ended up with a little tray of sweetness.
