Tour of la casita de Durango

Thought I'd give a little tour of our apartment.

Here's the main room.

Please excuse the mess. I didn't bother tidying up--since this is what it normally looks like. Might as well show the true reality. We have a rug, some foam padding, and a sheet on the floor by the sofas. This was supposed to be the soft space for Mei-Mei to crawl around and play on. But now she wants to crawl everywhere.

The entrance to the apartment is right next to the bookcase. And Elie has her own little table, next to the big table.

The kitchen is a little small, with very little counterspace. It has great tiles on the walls. Oddly, the tiles on the walls do not match. Not sure why. 

My guess is the kitchen is functional because in the past, kitchens were not places where people gathered. Your hired help cooked in this kitchen, and brought the food out. There used to be a door to this kitchen--but it is gone now.

Behind the kitchen is the service area. This is where our washing machine and dryer are.

The laundry sink also has a washboard. I like that there's a window--so you can get some light. Otherwise this room would be really dark. I didn't take a picture, but there's also a shower and a toilet back here. I think they were for the hired help. 

Here's a dryer, and how we hang up our laundry to dry. We also have a little patio, which we access from the bathroom. And we have some laundry lines there too.

In the same room as the dryer is where we have a bunch of kitchen appliances. We bought the toaster and the microwave when we got here. And Fede's mom is letting us borrow the blender and the rice cooker. 

I couldn't get a good picture of our rooms. But I love the closet doors. The detailing (which sadly is starting to fall off) looks like something from the 1950s? I'm guessing on the era. But it evokes a past which seems more glamorous than what we currently live in.

Did you notice that the closet doors are from wall to ceiling? As are all the doors in the apartment. Even the windows are to the ceiling. I love it. 

Another thing I love is the sunlight streaming into the shower. I love taking a shower in natural sunlight.
