What the heck is NERV?

Have you been wondering what that little icon "NERV" is all about? The one that Fede has been using in his posts about kaijus?

Unless you're a Japanese anime buff, you may not have heard of NERV or Evangelion. Or have any idea of what Fede is talking about when he says "kaiju." Although, I'm sure you were able to infer that a kaiju is a monster.

NERV is a reference to a Japanese animated television series called Evangelion. NERV is the agency created to fight against the monsters attacking earth. Just to confuse you, in Evangelion, the monsters are called "Angels."

Fede convinced me to watch Evangelion with him. I have no idea how many episodes there are--but suffice it to say I spent MANY hours watching the series. I actually started to enjoy it--despite some parts of the story that didn't make any sense to me. But the end of the series was bizarre. (Not unlike the end of Lost, the television series. I have no idea what the heck happened in the final episode.) So I cannot recommend watching Evangelion--unless you REALLY love someone who wants you to experience an animated series that he/she loves.

Actually, perhaps I am being too harsh on Evangelion. Perhaps the problem is me. I simply do not have enough imagination--enough ability to understand sci-fi/fantasy story-telling.

It is a miracle that Fede and I got together.
