After much searching and testing, my bottom half and back have reached the painful conclusion that there isn’t a perfect chair. However, there are some that work better than others. These are the thoughts on the 3 chairs that I tried:
- Aeron (from Herman Miller). This was the “standard” chair in Atlassian. I found that the trouble was that the cushion on the front hurt the back of legs after a while.
- Brezza (from LifeForm). I bought this myself but found that the memory foam cushion had an indentation on the back that it hurt the tail bone after a while. Also, the back was cushiony that I felt it didn’t provide enough support. I returned it.
- Leap (from SteelCase). My current chair at the office and at home (bought one to replace the Brezza). The best one that I have found, good back support, the seat adjust as you lean back and it has a nice feature where it moves down on the front to put less pressure on the back of the legs.
If you are a programmer, this will probably be an important purchase. Make no mistake, these things are expensive, so whatever you do make sure it has a return policy, you just never know until you seat on the thing for hours. Until your “bottom” hits the metal, as they say.
